The Topic, “Leadership and Ethics – Building Trust and Accountability in all our Business Dealings”, was used as a dialogue where Leaders in Business were asked to” look at opportunities to strengthen trust and accountability among all social partners in South Africa with Business Leaders leading by example and upholding a higher code of ethics”.
Hosted by the Durban Chamber President, Mr Musa Makhunga and facilitated by the Durban Chamber Vice President, Ms Mpume Mthembu, (Marketing Director at UShaka Marine World), the panel included Faisal Mkhize, Managing Executive of ABSA group KZN, Paul Nzimande, Business Consultant/Entrepreneur and Mr Karl Schmidt, former Partner of Deloitte & Touche and Director of KAP International.
President of The Durban Chamber, Mr Makhunga started the dialogue by listing three main factors that all businesses need to compete in, namely, Functionality, Aesthetics and Ethics with Dumile Cele, CEO of The Durban Chamber, summing up the afternoon with their slogan – “In business for a better world”.
Paul Nzimade’s statement that “building a good business should also be about building a good community”, left us all inspired and encouraged us to question our intentions, our assumptions and draw upon our own moral framework because ultimately, the responsibility lies within each one of us.
